The Seven Chakras Introduction
The Very Basics
My Personal Note:
Hey There!
I felt myself drawn to studying the Chakra system in the late 1980s. The "Mind, Body, Spirit" system of the Destination spa was being embraced by the smaller salons across the USA. My work as a hair stylist was expanding into the Day Spa industry. This interest evolved into a position as a trainer on the core education team of the largest distributor of salon and spa products in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
As an exhibitor and platform artist at the IECSC, International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference, I was in "alternative wellness education paradise!"
I had my very first Aura Image taken along with a chakra reading. More on my adventures later. For now, this post is about the very basics of the Chakra System. I mean super basics. So here goes...
Introducing The Seven Chakras
Sanskrit is considered an almost perfect classical language belonging to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages. The word Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning disc or wheel. They are considered spinning vortexes of energy within and outside of the human body. There is a total of 114 chakras. Seven of these energy centers are located along the spine within the body. Ten of these are located outside of the body.
**Just a note here.
This system of energy is recognized by Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoists also recognize a similar pattern of energy where chi flows through the body.**
Each chakra corresponds to an area of the body, a set of behavioral characteristics and stages of spiritual growth. Practicing yoga and focusing your energies during different postures can help you to align your chakras and get the energetic wheels spinning in the proper direction and speed. Tai Chi Kung has also helped me to enhance the alignment of my chakras and improve my intuition.
Understanding how to fine tune and control your chakras through yoga, chi kung and meditation can help bring balance and peace to your mind, body and spirit.
Each Chakra is associated with a particular body location, a color, a central emotional/behavioral issue, as well as many other personal aspects including identity and goals. Through the movements and postures of yoga, and (in my experience) Tai/Chi Kung, you can learn to focus your concentration and energy to and from the various chakras in your body. This can allow you to compensate for areas that may be out of sync with the rest of your body or not active at all.
We can use a number of different tools such as crystals or various forms of meditation during chakra balancing. The meditative practice of Breath Awareness is also highly beneficial to obtain peace and calm in the body system.
